Fishing Opener On Pelican
May 10, 2020
Fishing Opener on Pelican Lake was a success. The crew at Cabin O’ Pines was able to get all of the hazard buoys out for the season as well as host a handful of seasonal campers for the weekend. The resort is starting to look pretty good for spring cleaning and most of the major projects are close to completion.
Friday was WINDY. We felt it was important to get some of the major rock piles marked however and were on the lake for a few hours in the afternoon installing the most hazardous buoys on the East side of Pelican Lake. We also caught wind later that some anglers staying with Grey Wolf Lodge had caught a nice walleye fishing after midnight on Friday.
Saturday morning was beautiful with lighter winds and sunny skies. The calm water lasted until about noon when the wind picked up and remained choppy the rest of the day. Ross was able to get out on the lake and install the remaining buoys on the West, North West, South West and Central areas of the lake. A big thanks to Birch Forest and Aspen Resorts as well for managing most of the buoys in the South Central and Northern regions of the lake.
There were several anglers out on Saturday. The weather was certainly nice and one report from a couple fishing a rock pile that was buoyed explained that the fish were biting. A seasonal camper here at Cabin O’ Pines did find a few walleyes over the weekend as well.
Sunday was colder and windy with a few snow flurries in the morning. Not many boats on the lake as most guests were packing up to head home. Reports look good for next weekend with a warm up on the way.
Pictured is Luna in front of the Lodge which should have new siding complete by Memorial weekend. The foundation wall below the siding will eventually be stone veneer. The lodge, which also got new doors and windows last fall, is coming along nicely.
