Pelican Lake August Fishing Report

August 1, 2022

Fishing has been great this summer, especially for walleyes. There have been several reports of folks who have never caught a walleye before finding multiple walleyes and big trophy walleyes! Leeches and Night crawlers are still the preferred baits, but artificial minnows and lures are working as well. Getting to the bottom is the key in about 12 to 15 feet of water.

The pan fish are still biting hard as well. Reports of 10-12 inch crappies are biting in the weeds on beetle spins and crappie minnows. 8-10 foot weed lines are holding crappies. Lily pads can also hold crappies during warm water conditions.

Big bass season is full throttle. August proved very productive last summer when a professional angler competing in the Classic Bass tournament caught nearly 100 bass weighing nearly 250 pounds during mid August. Don’t pass up Pelican Lake on your next trip to Northern Minnesota!
